Did you ever have that feeling after reading a book that you wanted to meet the writer in person? I had. The last time that I was eager to meet an author was after reading Hopeless. That’s why when a friend of mine who is a huge fan of Colleen Hoover or CoHo told me that she is going to visit Manila this year, I couldn’t contain my excitement! I kept on checking with CoHo’s social media accounts and when August approached, National Book Store announced that she is coming to Manila with Tarryn Fisher and Christine Brae in September! Best news ever! I prepared myself to be earlier during the book signing knowing that it was Sunday (September 13), the venue is always jam packed with people (SM Megamall) and there were three authors (CTC) who are up and ready to sign their masterpieces. I was surprised that there was already a huge line of excited fans when I arrived 8:30 in the morning (the registration usually starts by 10 am). My eyes got huge when I saw that my number was 474! Omg! What time would my books be signed? Yet I waited because this is once in a life time opportunity. The interview with the writers promptly started by two in the afternoon yet the crowd got crazy as soon as Colleen Hoover stepped the platform. The supposedly brief interview became long because of the loud cheer and excitement from the crowd. Let’s talk about the Authors: *What their novels tell more about them* Christine Bare- Mostly are real life persons. Tarryn Fisher- Her lead characters are mostly villains. (Cool!) Colleen Hoover- She likes challenging stories. *Writing process* Christine Bare- She needs to be bad and angry first before ideas pore in her mind. She always has a coffee on her side. Tarryn Fisher- She put herself in the mindset of her characters. Sometimes she needs to get a little bit of crazy, so she would be able to write. Colleen Hoover- Surprisingly, CoHo being disorganized is effective! She thinks about a character then plot line and goes back and forth. *How do you write the sexy scenes?* Christine Bare- Based on her experience. (Honest!) Tarryn Fisher- She drinks a lot of wine and listens to music. Colleen Hoover- Admittedly, she is not very good in writing sexy scenes. She has to write and rewrite everything. *Reproduction of their books* Christine Bare- She started by self-publishing her novels. Tarryn Fisher- She decided to have her story self-published because it was rejected. (Aww…) Colleen Hoover- Self-published first, then by accident, she posted it on Amazon.com. *Updates and Advice* Christine Bare- New book: In This Life (some scenes are from the Philippines). “You always know that you can love two people in a different kind, but don’t feel guilty about it.” (Agree!) Tarryn Fisher- New book: F… Love! (Release date: October) Colleen Hoover- Books: November 9 (Release date: Same day! A lucky fan received her newest novel on the spot! Wow!) and Maybe Not (Release date: December) “Be patient. Don’t try to rush love. Don’t settle.” After four hours of waiting (around six in the evening), my books are finally signed! Hooray! It was a brief meet and greet with Colleen Hoover but being close to her was already enough. Thank you National Bookstore for bringing her here! I hope she will come back again soon! |
